The French Ecological Society is a learned society which aims to promote and associate the ecological disciplines and to strengthen their visibility in France.

The Mediterranean Institute of Marine and Terrestrial Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE) analyses the evolution of the biodiversity and the functions of the marine and continental ecosystems. IMBE is a research unit, supported by two universities (Aix-Marseille University and Avignon University) and two national research organisations (CNRS and IRD). The institute unites more than 250 researchers, research professors, PhD students, and engineers with fundamental and applied competence in areas of biodiversity, evolution, ecology, paleoecology, and the human-environment relation (global ecology).
